No Rest For The Nerdy - Vol. 11

We never stop playing video games. That’s a fact. Even after we call it quits for the week we still look forward to getting home and continuing our digital conquests. It’s our life blood. So we thought it would be fun to share with everyone what our gaming intentions are for the weekend so you guys can get a sense of what we’re playing and enjoying on a weekly, non-formal basis. Yes, this concept isn’t new to the internet. But hey, we kind of want to join in on the fun. Can you blame us for that? So without further ado, here’s what we’re playing this weekend that will forfeit any semblance of rest…

erikErik Norris: It’s a weekend full of Crysis 2 for me. I still have a lot of the game to play in order to get a review written and posted early next week. If all goes according to plan, expect that write-up Monday. However, a trip to Medieval Times on Saturday night could throw the entire plan in flux. I plan to eat many turkey legs and drink a lot of cheap beer from an extravagant chalice. The odds of me being sick on Sunday and barely touching a video game are very high.

Joey and I are also working on a new, secret feature that we plan to dive into this weekend, meaning we’ll probably be playing a bit of PlayStation Move Heroes, Swarm and, if I can talk Joey into it, WWE All Stars. He’s resisting like a son of a bitch, but maybe I can sway him with a peek at Hulk Hogan ripping his shirt off. That usually gets him excited.

alexAlex Keen: I’ll spend my entire weekend playing wrestling games too!  Just kidding. Do I look like a 10 year old kid that wears spandex and bandanas to bed? No.  I may be a nerd; but for damn sure I am not a wrestling nerd. Yuck.

I swooped up Bulletstorm for ridiculously cheap (thanks Amazon!) and am hoping that arrives today or tomorrow.  I’ve really paid zero attention to this game except that it’s supposed to be EXTREME!.  Joey thinks I will hate it.  But what does that guy know?

If Bulletstorm doesn’t make it in time, I’ll be playing Borderlands (right Mike?) and wrapping up Plants vs. Zombies.  I’ve hit a wall in Borderlands and my attention span has become really short.  If I can’t take down Mad Mel this weekend, Borderlands might wind up on a shelf next to Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Mass Effect 2.  Let’s hope that isn’t the case.

mikeMike White: Listen Alex, Legends of Wrestling and WCW/NWO: Revenge were two of the best games of all time. Wrestling games differences aside, that Mad Mel is going down! Borderlands hasn’t been holding my attention as a single player game so hopefully a little co-op mayhem will breathe new life into it.

Believe it or not, I have only once played Minecraft while drunk on Pad Tai and chocolate chip cookies at Joey Davidson’s house. My will is strong, but Minecraft is stronger. I pre-ordered the game this week and will be chuckin’ blocks with Joey this Saturday.

The next epic world-wide Rift event hits March 30, which only gives me five days to hit level 50. Thankfully, I have a few days off from work next week which means plenty of time for grinding while the lady friend is at school. I finally got my new computer up and running which means no more playing the game with the sound off and on custom ultra-low video settings. It’s a like a whole new world.

The temptation to reinstall World of Warcraft just to see the game on max settings for the first time is almost unbearable. That’s a slippery slope, however, so I’m hoping the feeling will pass…

joeyJoey Davidson: Well, it looks like I’ll finally be snagging my review 3DS and slew of games this weekend. That directly translates to a MASSIVE loss of free time. I’ll be balls deep in 3DS launch titles. Sounds fun.

But, in between charging sessions, I plan to play three titles exclusively this weekend. I’ll be continuing my trek deeper into the world of Minecraft. I’ll be urging my Swarm further into the bowels of death. And I’ll be rocking the DLC missions for Mass Effect 2 in preparation for The Arrival, the game’s epilogue DLC due next week.

Other than that, it’s life as usual. Jesus, this weekend is going to be long as shit. Get psyched for the new feature Erik and I are building.
