Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Falling right smack in the middle of the week, one of the most highly celebrated drinking days of the year poses a serious threat to productivity, particularly if they overdo it on the green beer and end up with a leprechaun-sized hangover. 

 

One step ahead of the game, Tabasco has teamed up with master Irish mixologist Darren Geraghty ( head mixologist at Dublin’s Exchequer Pub and winner of the first-ever Irish Open Cocktail Competition) to provide CraveOnline readers with recipes for some of Ireland’s favorite “morning after” cocktails. If you’re calling off the rest of the week to party properly during this most Irish celebrations, consider this your survival guide!

 

Bloody Mammy

 Dublin, Ireland

 

Ireland in recent years has become a metropolis for amazing food and fresh ingredients, and this is what has inspired the Bloody Mammy, a mix of strong Irish spirit, spice and flavor base, mixed with the freshness and goodness of lime. The basil and tomato juice will help get you started after the night before: it’s comforting with a gourmet twist.

 

4 leaves fresh basil

1 1/2  ounces Irish whiskey*

3 ounces tomato juice

1/3  ounce lime juice

2 dashes celery bitters

2 dashes Tabasco® brand Garlic pepper sauce

1 dash original Tabasco® brand pepper sauce

1 dash Lea & Perrins® Worcestershire sauce

1 pinch freshly ground black pepper

1 Sprig fresh basil

 

Muddle basil leaves in base of mixing glass. Add all other ingredients with ice; hard shake, and strain over ice in serving glass. Garnish with sprig of basil.

 

*Substitute with Poitín for a more authentic taste.

 

Yields 1 cocktail.

 

Bruised & Bloody

A distinct tasting and full-flavored “hangover cure,” the addition of red wine gives this drink amazing depth and complexity.

 

1 1/2 ounces vodka

4 ounces tomato juice

3 dashes original Tabasco® brand pepper sauce

2  dashes Angostura Bitters

1/3 ounce lime juice

1 pinch freshly ground black pepper

1/2 ounce Argentinean Malbec float

 

Add all ingredients, except Malbec, to shaker with ice; hard-shake. Strain over ice, then float Malbec on top of drink against the back of a bar spoon to help retain a separation of layers.

 

Yields 1 cocktail.

 

Hair of The Dog

In Ireland, cider has always been considered a good way to get over a hangover because of its water and sugar content. With the addition of tomato juice and Tabasco sauce, cider becomes a breakfast cocktail for champions.

 

2  ounces tomato juice

2 dashes original Tabasco® brand pepper sauce

8 ounces Irish cider

 

Add juice and Tabasco sauce to serving glass and top with cider.

 

Yields 1 cocktail.

 

The Morning After

This anytime drink is fresh in flavor with a distinct warmth.

 

7 fresh raspberries

1 1/2 ounces vodka

1 ounce gingerbread sugar syrup

1/3 ounce lime juice

1/3 ounce lemon juice

2 dashes original Tabasco® brand pepper sauce

 Orange zest

 

Muddle raspberries in base of shaker. Add all other ingredients with ice; hard shake. Strain into martini glass. Zest orange peel over drink to garnish.

 

Yields 1 cocktail.
