With a lead role in the acclaimed TV series Mad Men and a thriving movie career, it seems January Jones has arrived. She’s in this week’s thriller Unknown, as the wife who seems to forget who her husband is. X-Men: First Class is on the way for summer. Inquiring about her rise to fame seemed like a good way of broaching the subject of Emma Frost at the press conference for Unknown.
CraveOnline: You’re such a big success now, has everything gone according to plan?
January Jones: I don’t know if I have a plan or if I ever had a plan, but I’m very happy with the way it’s gone. I’m still very motivated and inspired and challenged. I don’t know, just older.
CraveOnline: Did you orchestrate all of this?
January Jones: Orchestrate? I don’t think so. I don’t know how you could in this business orchestrate anything, but I feel like I’ve been able to work with a lot of great people and have been lucky in my choices. I’m very strong willed, so that’s helped a lot. But really I just feel very lucky to have been able to do the things I’ve gotten to do and haven’t made too many mistakes… yet.
CraveOnline: For X-Men, were you ever a comic book reader?
January Jones: Not X-Men comics, not really, no. But when I first was approached for the role I definitely did my research on Emma in particular.
CraveOnline: What was your take on Emma Frost?
January Jones: I thought she was great. I liked the fact that what I didn’t know about X-men was the detail that the comics go into with their backstory and history and why they became what they became and their emotional issues, why they’re angry or what their motives are. so I thought it was really cool and really fun.
CraveOnline: Did you feel hot in a superhero costume?
January Jones: Not when I have to wear it for 16 hours a day, no.
CraveOnline: What comics did you read?
January Jones: I read the silly ones, Jughead, Veronica, the Archie comics, those kinds of things. I’d read all the comics in the Sunday paper and stuff but I never went into the superhero comics.
CraveOnline: What did you do with the red dress?
January Jones: I did get to keep it.
CraveOnline: Will you wear it again out?
January Jones: No.
