Is ‘Flight of the Conchords’ Star Bret McKenzie in ‘The Hobbit?’

There's too many motherfigwits figging with his shi'...!

When Bret McKenzie's not hanging with Bowie in space, he's prancing about Middle Earth in pointy ears. The Flight of the Conchords star has appeared in two of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies to date, playing Figwit, whose name derives from the acronym 'Frodo Is Great… Who Is That?' The songsmith and actor appeared at the Council of Elrond in The Fellowship of the Rings and even got to tell Liv Tyler, 'Lady Arwen, we must not delay' in The Return of the King. Not big roles, certainly, but hey… Who did you play in The Lord of the Rings? Yeah, that's what we thought.

Now, Entertainment Weekly has, quote, 'confirmed that McKenzie may be joining The Hobbit in a small role' (italics ours). So we'd take this with a grain of salt, but at least the precedent's been set. No confirmation yet of what role he'd take, but it seems likely given how long elves hang around in Middle Earth that he'd be reprising his role of Figwit. McKenzie and Jackson are both New Zealand natives, making their collaboration not just a nifty bit of trivia but also a matter of national pride.
