Although we're still early in 2011, the 2012 broadcasting slate for Showtime is beginning to take shape.

Earlier today, Showtime announced that it has given full season orders for two freshmen series, "Homeland" and "House of Lies." Both shows will run for 12 episode first seasons, with production scheduled to begin later this summer.

"'Homeland' and 'House of Lies' are audacious in both their concept and their casting," related Showtime Entertainment President, David Nevins. "They build upon the network's successful pedigree and expand the definition of what a Showtime series can be."

Former "24" showrunner Howard Gordon is spearheading "Homeland," a thriller based on the Israeli TV series, "Prisoner of War." Claire Danes stars as CIA officer, Carrie Anderson, a young agent who becomes suspicious about the circumstances surrounding the rescue of Scott Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. soldier missing in action for nearly a decade before his recovery. She soon receives a tip that leads her to believe that Brody is now controlled by Al Qaeda in an audacious plot to once again strike at America. Mandy Patinkin co-stars as Carrie's mentor, Saul.

"House of Lies" features "Iron Man 2" co-star Don Cheadle in the lead as Marty, an incredibly driven and cutthroat consultant who goes above and beyond to serve his clients' needs. "Veronica Mars" heroine Kristen Bell will also return in the series as Jeannie Van Der Hooven, an Ivy-League graduate who works with Marty and reluctantly falls for him. Ben Schwartz,Josh Lawson, Dawn Oliveri, Glynn Turman and Donis Leonard Jr. costar in the series.

Unlike, "Homeland," "House of Lies" will be a half hour series more along the lines of Showtime's "Weeds" and "The Big C." It was adapted by Matthew Carnahan from Martin Kihn's book, "House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time."

Thus far, neither series has been given a premiere date.
