Solid Snake Writing ‘Dragonriders of Pern’ Movie

Yes, really. Yes, really.

Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books are one of the most popular series of fantasy novels ever written. We've never read them, but presumably they involve individuals who like riding dragons and misspelling the word 'porn' to get away with talking about it on message boards. Battlestar Galactica creator Ronald D. Moore (that is to say, he created the new version of Battlestar Galactica) has previously attempted to bring Dragonriders to the small screen in 2002, but the WB network apparently tried to turn it into a teen-friendly romp so he abandoned the project. Now it's headed to the big screen instead, and according to Deadline they've got already got a screenwriter: Solid Snake from the Metal Gear games.

Well, the guy who plays Solid Snake anyway. His name's David Hayter, and in the screenwriting world he's best known for his script to Bryan Singer's two X-Men movies, as well as co-writer Zack Snyder's film version of The Watchmen. He's a pretty good writer, actually, which almost compensates for the time he starred in Guyver 2: Dark Hero

Crave Online will be back with more Dragonriders of Pern news after we actually read these danged books. Man… 21 novels? This is going to take forever
