It's Thanos vs. The Hood for control of the Infinity Gems.

Avengers #12

In the pages of Avengers, Brian K. Vaughn's down-to-earth and morally ambiguous petty criminal who stumbled into a magic cloak has been transformed by Brian Michael Bendis into a full-on cosmic-level bastard now that he's got his hands on some of the Infinity Gems and is trying to collect them all.

At the end of the last issue, Thanos appeared to have something to say about that.

In these preview images from Avengers #12, we get to see the conversation between Thanos and the Hood, which reveals that Thanos has never heard of poker and apparently Parker Robbins has never heard of Saturn's moon Titan.  Will Bendis bother to mention the events of The Thanos Imperative, in which Thanos had been left trapped in an alternate universe, or will he even need to?  The conclusion to this arc promises to reveal "an all-new cosmic entity," so it's possible this isn't the real Thanos we're seeing here.  Is the cover a mislead, or will Tony Stark actually wear the Infinity Gauntlet?

You'll have to check out the book yourself when it hits the stands this week, complete with art from the incomparable John Romita Jr.
