Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Roles!

And they're not who we thought they'd be!

After months of speculation, Warner Bros. has officially announced who Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who both appeared in Christopher Nolan's Academy Award-nominated Inception, are going to play in The Dark Knight Rises. Oh-so-reliable internet rumors had all but decided that they would be cast as Talia al Ghul and Holiday (or possibly Dr. Huge Strange), but they were all bunk. They'll be playing Miranda Tate and John Blake.

Yeah, we don't know who they are either. And we're pretty big Batman fans over here. If they appeared in the comics it must have been in a relatively small capacity, or heck, they may be entirely new creations. Here are the character descriptions given by Warner Bros:

"Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon."

It's entirely possible that Miranda Tate is a cover for Talia al Ghul's real identity, since we know that her father ties into the story in some capacity. Could all be a smokescreen. The 'special duty' assigned to Levitt's character probably has something to do with the fact that Batman is public enemy #1 after the events of the last film, but really, that's just speculation. He could be investigating public health violations for all we know.

Of the casting, Christopher Nolan stated "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again."

We're looking forward to it too.
