More than three weeks after Jeremy Renner was offered the lead role in The Bourne Legacy, Tony Gilroy's spin-off of the popular Jason Bourne franchise, he has finally accepted the part. Renner reportedly beat out a veritable army of potential stars for the role, including but not limited to Jake Gyllenhaal, Tobey Maguire, Garrett Hedlund, Josh Hartnett and Michael Fassbender. Hollywood Reporter reported from Hollywood, as is their want.
The real question is: can anyone think of a reason to complain? Even though he'd been working in the industry since 1995, he finally burst out of the gate in such recent tough guy favorites as The Hurt Locker and The Town, films for which he earned two Oscar nominations in as many years. He's seemingly mastered the art of being tough without losing sight of his character's humanity, and we look forward to his upcoming action-oriented roles in The Avengers, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and now, of course, Bourne Legacy.
Usually we'd find some way to be snarky about this, but you know what? Good for him. He's earned it.
Crave Online will be back with more Bourne Legacy news after we think of some obtuse pun based on title.
