We love beer around the CraveOnline offices, so we take any and every opportunity to let of fans know about all of the good beers we come across. In this case it is Newcastle’s Summer Ale, which is a recent variant of their classic Newcastle Brown ale.
Recently the CraveOnline team stopped by a British pub in Santa Monica called Ye Olde King's Head for a Newcastle Summer Ale tasting event. The Summer Ale has actually been out since 2009, but somehow I have never encountered it, which is strange since I have been drinking Newcastle for years.
The Summer Ale is noticeably lighter (practically blonde) in color than the traditional version, and the taste is lighter as well but still fairly similar. Now when I say light I don’t mean it’s a light Beer, it’s still full flavored just not as heavy as the original, which is perfect for a summer beer.
In addition to the Summer Ale (which I quickly bought a case of), Newcastle has collaborated with the Caledonian Brewery in Scotland to release three additional new ales. The ales range from pale to red, offering beer fans of all types something to enjoy.
Take a look at the bottles and descriptions below.
Newcastle Summer Ale: Refreshing and light, this golden beer offers a subtle citrus hop aroma and a clean, refreshing flavor with a dry finish.
Newcastle Werewolf:Naturally blood red in color, this distinct tasting fall ale produces a combination of sweet berry overtones and a sudden bite of bitterness.
Newcastle Winter IPA: Zesty in character and jam-packed with a creamy finish, the Newcastle Winter IPA is full-bodied and hoppy, delivering unique and authentic malt flavors for the cold season and snowy matchdays.
Newcastle Founder’s Ale: A rich ode to the heritage and the work of five of the best brewers in the city coming together to show off their craft, Founder’s Ale offers a full-bodied ale with a sweet and dry finish.
The Newcastle Limited Edition brews will be available nationwide in 6 and 12-pack bottles, as well as draught. The brews will be available for a limited time at select pubs and stores throughout 2011. For more information, head over to their official site at newcastlebrown.com.
