With the popularity of specialized stations like the Food Network and Cooking Channel, chef-wannabes and culinary hopefuls have embraced the foodie craze with open arms and empty stomachs. So it should come as no surprise that a lot of travelers are choosing destinations and planning their vacation itineraries around food – Rome may have incredible history and architecture but today's gourmets are choosing to visit this amazing region more to check out their endless varieties of wines and local fare.

So here are some North American cities that have great food and drink for all.


Stowe, Vermont

Experience the Stowe Wine and Food Classic, northern New England’s premier wine and food event, and get a taste of the region's local cuisine. This year’s event features an incredible line-up of celebrity chefs, like Chef Chris Coombs, Executive Chef/Owner of Deuxave in Boston MA and Chef William Kovel, Executive Chef of Boston’s 28 Degrees,and featured wineries. Nashville, Tennessee

If you're a fan of barbecue then you'll be in seventh heaven in lively Nashville. With a dizzying array of down-home classic barbecue joints as well as upscale restaurants boasting high-end contemporary cuisine, with every restaurant chain imaginable in-between, there's something for everyone in Music City.


Seattle, Washington

The birthplace of Starbucks is not only a city well-known for its Joe… it's also an incredible food destination too. For a sampling of everything Seattle has to offer check out Bite of Seattle, running from July 15-17. Admission is free to this event, which has 50+ restaurants and 30+ food product companies that participate, and there's always live entertainment from the 150 acts who are scheduled to perform on one of six outdoor stages. San Diego, California

Experience everything this unique culinary region has to offer at the San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival in November, where 170 wine and spirit purveyors join 70 of the city's top chefs for this five-day event. There will also be celebrity chefs, cooking classes and more – visit


Montreal, Quebec

Every "type" of food is represented in this Canadian city, from the local classic poutine dish served at a greasy spoon diner to award-winning world-renowned restaurants with traditional French fare. Chinatown and Little Italy also have some of the best regional food in the country, and streets like Duluth are lined with fantastic bring-your-own-wine Greek restos. You can eat your way around the world in a four-block radius.
