Man, Activision sure knows how to come out of a holiday swinging. To kick off this post-Memorial Day world, Activision has revealed their new Call of Duty-centric online service, Call of Duty Elite, developed from the ground up by Activision’s Beachhead Studio.
It’s been long rumored that Activision has been working on a premium Call of Duty online experience, and now we finally know what it is and how it works. Essentially, Call of Duty Elite lets Call of Duty players connect, compete and improve their skills through a much more intuitive interface with social networking services at its heart. It’s still the same Call of Duty gameplay that you remember, but Call of Duty Elite interconnects the experience across your console, PC, phone and tablet, letting you stat track, form clans and communicate with the CoD community from anywhere. In a lot of ways, Call of Duty Elite is like Halo's Halo Waypoint on Xbox 360: a Call of Duty culture hub that lets you eat, sleep and breathe Activision’s mega franchise.

The big question on everyone’s mind is how much is Activision making us pay for this? Well, Call of Duty Elite is free on a base level. However, if you want to subscribe and pay a premium, you can. Choosing to pay a subscription fee will net you a “wide range of state-of-the-art services, exclusive entertainment programming and all-inclusive game content.” Unfortunately, Activision has not yet revealed the cost of the premium membership.
Call of Duty: Elite will launch alongside Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 on November 8, 2011. The service will also be backwards compatible with Call of Duty: Black Ops. You can even sign up for the beta here.
