Uncharted Beta Hit By Tech Issues

It's not all smooth sailing for Nate and Sully. But don't panic, Naughty Dog is on the case.

Yesterday saw the launch of the Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception multiplayer beta. However, the launch didn’t go as smoothly as was probably intended. The beta has been hampered by server connection issues, lag and freezing. While this is no doubt disappointing, know that the fine folks at Naughty Dog are hot on the case and trying to iron everything out as I type this.

Since the beta’s release, Naughty Dog has issued an update, bringing the game up to version 1.01, which has fixed the server connection issues. Unfortunately, many players (myself included) are still hit by horrendous framerates and system crashes (I’ve had to reboot my PS3 probably 5-6 times thus far before calling it quits outright until the issue is resolved). These issues seem to be a little trickier to resolve since the reports aren’t widespread, said Naughty Dog in a tweet.

I know a few people who read our Uncharted 3 Beta Preview yesterday experienced similar problems, which they expressed in our comments section. That’s why I’ve written this post — I want to ease your mind. You’re not alone in your frustration. We all want to hop into the Uncharted 3 beta and enjoy the hell out of it for the short two weeks it’s available. We just have to trust in Naughty Dog and hope they get everything worked out in a timely fashion.

A large reason for the overload could be attributed to Naughty Dog and Sony not expecting this many people to download the beta. Yes, it’s Uncharted, an incredibly popular franchise for Sony, but let us not forget that this beta was originally limited to PlayStation Plus subscribers and owners of InFamous 2 for its first week. But with the PlayStation Network being hacked and free PS+ memberships being handed out like candy, the amount of PS+ subs has no doubt expanded exponentially. In a nutshell, pretty much everyone that has a PS3 is now a PS+ subscriber who no doubt wants to test out Uncharted 3 early. Think about that.

I'll leave it there for now. If any new updates break, I'll let you know here.
