The Beasts of Burden movie is moving faster than we thought… must be all those extra legs. Just a few weeks after Shrek's Andrew Adamson was announced as the adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book's director, we already have a screenwriter: Darren Lemke. Now the question remains: who the heck is Darren Lemke?

Lemke is the co-writer of the X-Men director Bryan Singer's next big-budget project, Jack the Giant Killer, which pits the fairy tale hero against an army of giants in a present-day adaptation. He also co-wrote Shrek Forever After, giving him and Andrew Adamson something to bond over at Starbucks. Lemke got his start writing low-budget and television fare like Flashpoint and Lost. No, not that Lost… It's a Dean Cain movie about a guy on a road trip that coincides with a bank heist. Has anyone seen that? Is it any good?

The Hollywood Reporter had the story. Only time will tell if Adamson's Beasts of Burden will be as good as Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson's exceptional comic book series, about a group of dogs (and one stray cat) who team up to solve supernatural mysteries in the small town of Burden Hill.

Crave Online will be back with more Beasts of Burden news soon. God, reporting on all these comic book adaptations is such a burden
