Last week's episode of "True Blood" began to lay out the story for the entire season as the vampires began to realize that the coven led by Marnie (Fiona Shaw) may be a real threat to them. The new Vampire King of Louisiana, Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) even sent his rival, Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgard) to forcibly disband the coven.

Unfortunately for Eric, Marnie and the coven proved to be too powerful for him as they cast a spell that left him bewildered and dazed. When Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin) found him wandering on the side of the road, Eric didn't even know who he was.

In the first of three preview clips from the third episode of the season, "If You Love Me, Why Am I Dyin'?;" the coven attempts to figure out its next move as Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) and Tara (Rutina Wesley) warn them about Eric's wraith.

As for Sookie's somewhat dimwitted brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten); he found himself bound to a bed by his former girlfriend Crystal (Lindsay Pulsipher) and her brother/lover, Felton (James Harvey Ward) who told him that they wanted Jason's help conceiving a child. But first, they transformed into panthers and bit Jason to make sure that he will transform into a werepanther too. For our second preview clip of the week, Jason finally begins to understand just what his captors have in mind for him when they have what they need.

And finally, our third clip of the week features Bill sentencing a vampire who was dumb enough to defy the direct orders of the VLA.

HBO has also released a synopsis of the next episode along with the teaser trailer.

Eric and Sookie work out an agreement while Bill renders advice and guidance to Jessica. Meanwhile, Jason becomes the hero and Tommy, once again, becomes estranged from Sam. Pam instructs Lafayette that if demands aren't met, retaliation may be in order. Marnie sets out to give her new powers a try. Eric upsets a get-together.
