DC Retroactive 1970s: Batman

When DC first announced their "Retroactive event," most of us thought it was a fun little idea – reuniting creators with the characters they're well-known for working with to tell stories in the styles of their respective eras.  Now, with the massive "New 52" revamp looming on the horizon, this now feels like the farewell salute to the classic DC Universe, the sort of swan song most every other title is being denied with the Flashpoint rush to the finish line.

The Retro-tainment kicks off this week with a flashback to the 1970s, as Len Wein and Tom Mandrake give us a freshly quaint take on the Caped Crusader.  This one-shot pits Batman against The Terrible Trio and their intolerable stench of evil.  As you can see below, Wein's obviously having fun with old-school writing flair.

Check out these preview pages from DC Retroactive 1970s: Batman, due out tomorrow.
