We're finally getting more news from the Lone Ranger movie Disney's been setting up with Armie Hammer, Johnny Depp and now Ruth Wilson in the leads. Variety reports that Sling Blade star Dwight Yoakam is in talks to play the film's big bad Butch Cavendish, who leads a group of Texas Rangers to their deaths… except for one, who is now "lone." Whoops. Looks like we're getting a proper origin story here. Country music legend Dwight Yoakam is no stranger to acting or to westerns, having appeared in both Richard Linklater's The Newton Boys and the Penelope Cruz/Salma Hayek vehicle Bandidas.
Helena Bonham Carter, The Departed's James Badge Dale and Barry Pepper are also up for major roles. Dale would play The Lone Ranger's older brother, the leader of the aforementioned Texas Rangers (probably not too big a role then). If Carter seals the deal she'll play the madame of a brothel. Well, we already know she looks good in a corset. No word yet on Barry Pepper's part, but he's played a western villain before in The Coen Bros.' True Grit, so Disney knows he can handle it.
