Thanks to a recent survey conducted by Nielsen, it has been discovered that nearly 50% of Netflix instant stream users get their digital content through a video game console of some kind, be it Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 or Nintendo Wii. But the real shocker here is that the Nintendo Wii has dethroned the PlayStation 3 for most-used gaming console for Netflix content. That’s right, the console that can’t even stream in high definition is the front runner. It makes me want to tell 25% of Netflix instant stream users that they’re doing it wrong.

However, the majority of Netflix users still go for the tried-and-true method of using their computer for streaming content. This group makes up 42% of the instant stream user base. Now you might be asking, where do the Xbox 360 and PS3 fall in this percentage slugfest? Well, they reside at 13% for the PS3 and 12% for the Xbox 360, respectively. That means it takes the combined might of the PS3 and Xbox 360 Netflix user base to equal that of the Nintendo Wii. Christ, that’s insane.

I guess this just goes to show you how many households the Nintendo Wii that penetrated. Anyone that uses Netflix instant streaming through a video game console can attest to how simple the procedure is. It’s far more convenient than watching shows and movies on your small computer monitor or taking the time to hook up your computer to your TV via a VGA cable whenever you want to boot up Netflix. However, I totally did not see the Wii being the pack leader in this competition. But I guess the majority of people really don’t care about having their entertainment in high definition, they just want access to the goods in general.
