I come bearing sad news. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will not make a 2011 release for Xbox 360. The game has been pushed back into Quarter 1 of 2012. The well-received PC title was originally announced for Xbox 360 right around E3 in June. As is the case with most delays, the extended development time will allow CD Projekt to fine tune and tweak the 360 port to perfection.

“The extra time will allow us to polish the title to perfection, so that the game offers an ideally balanced, fantastic experience to gamers. As the launch of the game approaches, we will be sharing more details how it will be released on Xbox 360. I trust that despite the release date shift, players will be satisfied with what we are planning for them,” said CD Projekt boss Adam Kicinski.

While this will surely be disappointing news for those looking forward to the Xbox 360 version of the title this year. You can also look at it as a blessing in disguise. The release schedule for the remaining months of the year is absolutely stacked. One less game is not going to kill us. In fact, your wallet is probably saying thank you right now, you just can’t hear it because your sitting on its face.

The move into Q1 of 2012 does mean that The Witcher 2 will be going head-to-head with another major action RPG, Mass Effect 3. But we’re just going to say this up front, do yourself a favor and don’t play favorites, buy both. You’ll thank us later.
