There's something funny going on at "Children's Hospital" and it won't be stopping any time soon.
Deadline is reporting that Adult Swim has renewed "Children's Hospital" for a fourth season set to premiere in 2012.
"Children's Hospital" was created by Rob Corddry and it originated as a web series in 2008 before eventually coming to Adult Swim. The satirical series follows the staff of an offbeat Children's Hospital led by Blake Downs (Corddry), a bizarre doctor who believes "the healing power of laughter" and performs medicine while wearing frightening clown makeup. "Children's Hospital" is also an overt parody of other medical series like "ER" and "St. Elsewhere."
The series also stars Malin Åkerman as Dr. Valerie Flame, Erinn Hayes as Dr. Lola Spratt, Rob Huebel as Dr. Owen Maestro, Megan Mullally as The Chief, Ken Marino as Dr. Glenn Richie and Henry Winkler as Sy Mittleman, the hospital administrator.
"Children's Hospital" is also notable for its impressive guest cast, with recent appearances by Thomas Lennon, Sarah Silverman, Rich Fulcher, Matthew Perry, Marlon Wayans, Nick Offerman, Zachary Gordon, Alicia Silverstone, Michael McKean and Lisa Edelstein among several others.
Since its debut on Adult Swim, the audience for the series has swelled to over 1 million viewers per episode and it regularly performs well in its Thursday night time slot.
Production on the fourth season of "Children's Hospital" is expected to begin later this year.
