We never stop playing video games. That’s a fact. Even after we call it quits for the week we still look forward to getting home and continuing our digital conquests. It’s our life blood. So we thought it would be fun to share with everyone what our gaming intentions are for the weekend so you guys can get a sense of what we're playing and enjoying on a weekly, non-formal basis. Yes, this concept isn't new to the internet. But hey, we kind of want to join in on the fun. Can you blame us for that? So without further ado, here’s what we’re playing this weekend that will forfeit any semblance of rest…
Please feel free to sound off below to let us know what your gaming plans are this weekend.
Erik Norris: This weekend is actually going to be an off weekend for me. I’m packing up shop and heading down to the beach for “Irish Weekend.” I bet you can guess what that entails. I’ll be too busy partying to really sit down and play any video games. But then again, I’m not complaining.
However, I will be returning home early Sunday afternoon, so I might fire up some Gears of War 3 multiplayer immediately upon arrival. I’m happy to report that Gears 3’s multiplayer component works just fine after the game launched worldwide. I was honestly nervous that Gears 3 would experience the same fate as Gears 2 and brick as soon as the servers were flooded with everyone hopping online on launch day. But the beta test proved useful, as Gears of War 3 is running silky smooth, which I’m ecstatic about.
Oh, I also have this little game called NHL 12 sitting on my shelf. I got to dabble in it for a few hours with Joey, but I need more. Maybe Sunday night I can get a game or two in with our online league team, The Grimace. Here’s hoping.
Mike White: I, too, will be at the beach this weekend. Sadly, there won't be anything Irish about what I'm up to. My only down time until Sunday will come late after the restaurant shuts down. I need only one thing after a long shift of food service and that is the merciless slaughter of other players in PvP. I'm stuck playing on a Mac tonight so my game of choice is limited to WoW (big surprise).
By the time I come home on Sunday, my shiny new Xbox should be waiting for me to set it up. I never thought I'd miss having a console around but my original Xbox crapped out on me over three weeks ago. Now I can't wait to pick up Gears of War 3 and see what the newer 360s are all about.
I guess I'll grab myself a copy of NHL 12 as well. Only playing NHL on Tuesdays while we do the Next Gen News podcast just isn't enough. I can only hope The Grimace is accepting applications.
Alex Keen: Just counting the hours until the new baby is here. In the meantime I’ll keep on playing Gears of War 3. The story is starting to get real good now that I am done Act III. Can’t wait to see what’s next for me to experience.
I’ve been playing some Child of Eden on the Kinect but have had some issues with the controls. Not entirely sure if it’s user error or if the issue is with the game. The other problem could be the fact that my Kinect was bought used from GameStop. Despite those issues, I am enjoying the game to a certain extent so far.
Paul Tamburro: I’m heading out of the city this weekend in order to go on a bar crawl with UK Grime MC Tempa T – Yah, RLY.
Fortunately, I will be stopping at a friends who also owns a copy of Gears of War 3, so I foreshadow a Sunday hangover spent trying to complete the co-op campaign. I’ve been quite busy this week so I’ve thus far only managed to sneak in a few games of Team Deathmatch and one session of Capture the Leader, but I’m loving it. I forgot how fun Gears is. And manly. Honestly, spending an hour chainsawing Locust fills me with so much testosterone that I just want to run outside and punch someone in the face. Anyone. Are you lookin’ at me? ARE YOU LOOKIN’ AT ME?!
Joey Davidson: It’s nothing but Gears of War 3 and NHL 12 for me this weekend.
I’m currently approaching the conclusion of the second act in Gears. I absolutely love the game so far. Everything feels bigger, tighter, more well defined and silkier. My only gripe, and I know Alex will probably agree, is that it’s almost been too easy up to where I am. In fact, the only times I’ve died is when I get carried away and charge into battle with the retro lancer.
I just wanna stab somebody!
When I play it methodically, moving from cover to cover and popping off enemies in an orderly fashion, the game is super easy. Hopefully that changes. I am playing it on normal (I ALWAYS play games on normal the first time in), so I’m sure my trips through Hardcore and Insane will have me eating my words.
The Grimace is accepting more skaters, Mike. So as soon as you get the game, let me know, we’ll get you into the club and we’ll continue our horrific losing streak. We’re not good. The game is good, but we’re not. Nope. Not at all.
