We've made no bones about it here at CraveOnline: re-releases are the wave of the future. 3D is a gimmick, and maybe a fun one, but it's more like an amusement park ride than an actual movie. Re-releasing old classics, however, is a great idea. Movies, especially the great ones, deserve to be seen in a theater and as The Lion King has recently proved, audiences will come out in droves for beloved classics returning to the big screen. Ghostbusters is coming out again in October, and now IMAX is joining the fray to with re-releases of some recent audience favorites: Fast Five, Star Trek and Inception.
Good movies, the lot of them, and they're all back in IMAX theaters for one week only, starting today, from September 30th to October 6th. Ticket prices are also very reasonable, at only $7 a pop. Check out the website for more details.
Of course we support the re-release of these movies, particularly Inception (which we, like all good-hearted people, love), but it's interesting that they're all getting re-released exclusively on IMAX screens considering the fact that none of them were actually shot in the IMAX format, except Inception, which was only partly filmed shot in 65mm. If they hadn't dropped the ticket prices, we'd have cried foul, but you're still getting a great deal for great movies in a great presentation. Which sounds pretty great to us.
We're particularly excited about these re-releases as a potential business model for IMAX, which has more theaters than ever across the country, but don't have a big IMAX release to promote every single week. Re-releasing classic or popular films in the off-seasons is a win/win for the theater chain and audiences alike.
What are you waiting for? Go get your tickets!
CraveOnline will be back with more re-release news after we end this sentence with some kind of pun or pop culture reference.
