Aaron Eckhart IS Frankenstein!

It's his scariest movie since Love Happens!

If you asked us how many Frankenstein movies are in development right now, we couldn't tell you. There's that many. Shawn Levy is doing one, Neil Burger is doing one, Guillermo del Toro is supposedly doing one, but Stuart Beattie appears to have the fast track: his adaptation of the comic book I, Frankenstein already has a big lead: Aaron Eckhart, of The Dark Knight fame.

Deadline reports that Beattie will write and direct the comic book, written by Underworld creater Kevin Grevioux. The story finds the Frankenstein Monster, aka "Adam," in the present day, having survived the events of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley's original book. He makes his way to what the press release calls "a dark, gothic metropolis" and gets caught in the middle of an "all-out, centuries old war between two immortal clans." God, we hope it's vampires and werewolves. That would be neat.

Beattie is a prolific screenwriter, having contributed to good movies (Collateral, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), bad movies (Derailed, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and above averae stuff like 30 Days of Night. He seems to think very highly of I, Frankenstein since he says, "Mary Shelly’s [sic] story is about the creation of the first human being. This is the story about that being becoming human.”

We love Eckhart, but he's never been able to break out as a leading man. Is this his chance?

CraveOnline will be back with more Frankenstein news as soon as we enter a new world of gods and monsters.
