In a not-terribly-surprising-but-disappointing-anyway move, Patty Jenkins has dropped out of directing Thor 2 for Marvel Studios. Jenkins was a surprise choice in the first place, having only directed one prominent feature before, the understated serial killer drama Monster, which won Charlize Theron an Academy Award for Best Actress. It was an excellent film, but beyond the excellent performances had little in common with the epic sci-fi/fantasy franchise Marvel would obviously like Thor to become. Deadline reports that Jenkins left the project over those pesky "creative differences" we hear so much about.

Just once… once we'd like to hear about someone leaving a movie over money, or sexism, or a lack of tacos on the craft service table. Well, obviously the sexism would be horrible, but come on… It's like when people divorce over "irreconcilable differences." Of course they're irreconcilable! Otherwise there'd be no need for a divorce! Whatever happened to, "He shtupped my sister" or "The damned trash never got taken out?" What did Jenkins want to do with Thor 2 that Marvel didn't like, anyway?

But we digress. With Jenkins gone and a proposed November 13, 2013 release date looming just close enough on the horizon to make Marvel twitchy, they're understandably hunting for a new director ASAP. Hmm… If only someone had written a top ten list of folks who'd make a good Thor 2 director…

CraveOnline will be back with more Thor 2 news as soon as they offer the gig to Duncan Jones. Come on, guys… Duncan Jones…
