The long wait is over. The first trailer for Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has just hit the internet courtesy of Apple. The film is the first of a two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic novel The Hobbit, and is due in theaters on December 14, 2012. You're going to find that it's a rather sedate preview, filled with sad dwarf songs and quiet moments between the likes of Gandalf and Galadriel, Bilbo and Frodo (the film's told in flashback, apparently) and ultimately, yes, Biblo and Gollum. There are moments of action, including a brief snippet of the altercation with the trolls, but we imagine those sequences are going to take the most time to complete with all the CGI necessary to bring them together. So instead, Peter Jackson & Co. have decided to go the classy route, and tease the legendary quality of the storyline rather than the money shots.

[UPDATE: We've added an embedded video version without the Apple watermark. Enjoy!]
