The AFC West was one of the most wide open divisions last season because no team seemed to really "want" to seal up a division title. Every team looked like they had a chance to win it at some point in the last 4-5 weeks. Free-agency might be more important for the Raiders than any other team in the league this year because they only have two picks in the draft this year. So here's the scoop on which positions the Raiders and the rest of the west will need to fill this off-season.
Cornerback – Champ Bailey is nearing the end of a historic career and may be moved to safety in the near future. That future could come sooner rather than later if Denver can bring someone in to play opposite Andre Goodman.
Defensive Tackle – Starters Brodrick Bunkley and Marcus Thomas are both free-agents and even if the Broncos bring them both back they will need at least one other body
Quarterback – It doesn't matter how many games he won last year, John Elway and John Fox don't want Tim Tebow. Elway would LOVE to get Peyton Manning but if that doesn't happen look for the Broncos to get someone to seriously push for the starting job.
Pass Catcher – No matter who lines up at quarterback, this team needs receivers and tight ends. Unfortunately for the Broncos, no big name receiver is going to Denver as long as Tebow is the guy.
Kansas City Chiefs
Offensive Line – This offensive line is old and mediocre, there isn't even an up and coming stud player on the roster right now. This line needs a major overhaul.
Defensive Tackle – Kelly Gregg is near the end of his career, is a free-agent this year, and the rest of the Chiefs' players behind Gregg are young and untested.
Offensive Skill Players – Last season left questions as to whether 2010 was an aberration for the Chiefs. Injuries devastated this team at key positions and the Chiefs will need to evaluate their running back, quarterback and wide receiver positions.
Cornerback – A year after losing Nnamdi Asomugha, Oakland was forced to release Stanford Routt due to cap issues. The Raiders do have bodies in the secondary, but it's not as talented as it once was. Add in the penalty issues last year and this unit needs some new blood.
Guard/Tackle – Khalif Barnes may be gone in free-agency and this team needs an upgrade at Guard. The Raiders are usually a good running team but if they lose Michael Bush they'll need the line to block better for Darren McFadden.
Outside Linebacker – Kamerion Wimbley and Aaron Curry have the potential to play well, but are both amazingly inconsistent. Once again, with the penalty issues this team had last year, they need new blood.
San Diego Chargers
Offensive Tackle – If this team releases Marcus McNeill to free up cap space and can't keep Brandyn Dombrowski, they are in serious trouble. Jared Gaither played OK last season but is also a free-agent.
Outside Linebacker – Pass rushing OLB's are a valuable commodity in the 3-4, Antwan Barnes had a good year last year but the Chargers may need an upgrade over Shaun Phillips.
Strong Safety – Free safety Eric Weddle can't defend the middle of the field all by himself and Steve Gregory played more like a linebacker than a SS.
Wide Receiver – If Vincent Jackson leaves, this receiving corps is in trouble. Malcom Floyd and Vincent Brown can be serviceable for the Chargers but they need a surefire #1 guy.
