World MasterCard Fashion Week is underway in Toronto as designers from across Canada (and the globe) come together for a week of fashion shows and other related events. It's the 26th season of this highly sought-after Canadian fashion week.
Korhani Home got things started yesterday by launching their new fashion line, which is made completely out of rugs (in keeping with their usual home decor work). The Canadian Press wrote: "The Canadian home decor brand married the eccentric and whimsical with its presentation of designs fashioned entirely of rugs, channelling such disparate influences as the Far East, Victorian era-luxe and punk rock chic. From flowing capes to flared dresses, studded trenches, hooded capes and collared minis, boldly-patterned shag, silk, nylon and tapestry rugs featuring everything from florals to houndstooth dotted the elaborate creations."
Today a myriad of designers will be presenting their work, such as Adrian Wu, Sid Neigum, Soia & Kyo, Lundstrom Collection, and Matis by Lucian Matis. Fashionistas can take in a variety of other shows throughout the week that will include collections from Melissa Nepton, Joe Fresh, Rudsak, David Dixon, Dare To Wear Love, and Travis Taddeo. There will also be several events surrounding Toronto Fashion Week, such as "Fashion Takes Action," a giant clothes swap where you can bring in at least one gently-used article of clothing in exchange for a token, which can be used to "swap" for another item of clothes. Admission is $20 per person, or $10 for Fashion Week pass holders. Tickets are available in advance on Eventbrite and can be paid at the door.
