Ladies and gentlemen, the day is upon us. For the first time since last June, "Game of Thrones" is set to return to HBO for a second season of 10 episodes.
Before season 2 kicks off tonight, April 01, HBO has unleashed a preview video that profiles six of the most prominent new characters who are joining the saga this year. Among them is Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane); the oldest brother of the late King Robert who has perhaps the strongest claim to the Iron Throne of Westros. By Stannis' side is his loyal right hand man, Davos Seaworth (Liam Cunningham) and the mysterious woman, Melisandre (Carice van Houten) who hails from a distant land and serves as a high priestess of a new religion which Stannis seems to have fully embraced.
Also profiled are Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer), the new wife of Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony) who may end up as one of the Queens of Westros, as well as Qhorin Halfhand (Simon Armstrong); a legendary ranger among the Night's Watch whom Jon Snow (Kit Harington) greatly admires.
And finally, we meet Balon Greyjoy (Patrick Malahide), Lord of the Iron Isles and father of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), Ned Stark's hostage and ward, as well as Robb Stark's (Richard Madden) close friend. When Theon meets his father for the first time in years, he may not get the welcome that he was hoping for…
