Let's cut right to the chase here: Captain America 2 will be released on April 4, 2014, and that's not nearly soon enough. After last summer's one-two punch of Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger, it seemed like the Marvel Studios release schedule was finally in full-swing. This year we get The Avengers, next year Iron Man 3 and then Thor 2. And we want more, more, more...!
Disney made the announcement today that the Captain America sequel, currently without a director, has not only confirmed its release date but will remain in the present day, although flashbacks are obviously not out of the question: "The second installment will pick-up where the highly anticipated Marvel’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012) leaves off, as Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world."
No word yet on villains, although both MODOK and The Winter Soldier have been rumored. The directors have reportedly been narrowed down to the folks who brought you The Adjustment Bureau, Friday and TV's "Community," which still seems like an awfully strange mix to us. That said, Marvel Studios seems to have a pretty good idea of what they're doing, so maybe they've earned the benefit of the doubt... for now.
CraveOnline will be back with more Captain America 2 news after we retcon the gadget-filled shield back into existence.
