Welcome to Episode #4 of Hot for Food. Everything tastes better with beer! That's why Melissa has decided to soak her brats in beer and show you how nommy they can come out!
Hot for Food Recipe – Beer Brats
2 Tbs Olive Oil
1 Large Yellow Onion, sliced
1 Red Bell Pepper, seeded and sliced
1 Green Bell Pepper, seeded and sliced
(I like to use one of each for color!)
Salt and Pepper
And the star of the recipe…3 Dark BEERS!!!
4 Brat Buns or Hoagie Rolls
Ketchup or Mustard, optional for tasty toppings
Start by cutting the onion and the peppers into long thin strips.
Prick each brat all over with a fork.
In a medium pot, add half of the sliced onions, the brats and all the beer, making sure theres enough beer to completely cover the brats.
Bring the beer to a simmer over medium heat and cook for 15 minutes.
While the brats are cooking, heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the remaining onions, the bell peppers and a large pinch of salt and a pinch of pepper.
Cook the onions and bell peppers, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes until they begin to soften.
After the 10 minutes and when brats are done, add brats to the skillet and cook another 5 minutes so the brats get a nice brown crust and making sure the onions and peppers are completely soft.
All done!! Just put each brat in your bun or hoagie roll, add mustard or ketchup if you like and top with the yummy sautéed onions and peppers!
