Earlier this year, Fox announced its intent to launch a Saturday night Animation Domination HD block under the direction of Adult Swim veteran, Nick Weidenfeld. Appropriately enough, the block is said to be emulating the Adult Swim model which features short form series of 15 minutes or less. And now, Fox has its first animated series for Saturday nights.

According to Variety, Fox has picked up the popular web comic "Axe Cop" to be an animated series in early 2013, with six episodes that will run 15 minutes each. Back in 2009, "Axe Cop" was created by illustrator Ethan Nicolle and his then five year old brother, Malachai before going to become a viral web comic hit in early 2010.

As you may infer from the title, "Axe Cop" follows a police officer whose weapon of choice is an axe as he takes on zombies, robots, aliens and other bizarre creatures. Ethan Nicolle credits his younger brother for the story ideas, which he elaborates on.

"It's rare that you find something that feels both so new in its tone and content but also so fully formed,"  said Weidenfeld. "To me it was very clear that 'Axe Cop' has potential to be a larger franchise."
Wiedenfeld is also said to be looking for three additional animated series for the debut of the Saturday night Animation Domination HD block in early 2013. Wiedenfeld also indicated that half hour animated series may be ordered for the Animation Domination HD block during its second year.
