Jim Starlin created Thanos of Titan back in 1973 in the pages of Iron Man, and now that the purple-skinned, Death-obsessed Eternal has shown his grinning mug amidst the credits of the blockbuster Avengers movie, it's time to bring out the source material from the creator to remind us why we should sit up and pay attention to this guy.
Marvel is reprinting two of Starlin's Thanos stories this September – Thanos: The Final Threat #1 and Thanos Quest #1. The former deals with Thanos once again trying to collect the Infinity Gems and boasts Starlin also handling the art duties, while the latter brings Ron Lim on board to continue the Thanos saga (with an awesome Andy Park cover), this time determined to conquer the universe and kill half its population.
Also tying into this will be a new story in Avengers Assemble #7, from Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley, the movie-esque series that will force the Avengers to team up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to fend off the Mad Titan.
Here's a look at the cover art for Thanos: The Final Threat #1, Thanos Quest #1 and Avengers Assemble #7, in that order.
If you want more Thanos now instead of later, you can also check out the stuff available already, including The Infinity Gauntlet TPB and Silver Surfer: Rebirth of Thanos TPB.
