Will Fox Give Galactus and the Silver Surfer Back to Marvel Studios?

Marvel Studios might let 20th Century Fox keep their Daredevil reboot - possibly directed by Joe Carnahan - in exchange for two intergalactic characters.

20th Century Fox has a gun to their head, forcing them to go into production on their Daredevil reboot – which just lost is director, David Slade, last month – by fall 2012 in order to retain the rights to the character. Surprisingly, they're not just going to hop to it and whip out a quickie superhero yarn to prevent ol' hornhead from going back to Marvel Studios. Instead, Variety reports that they're in talks to trade back two of their biggest Marvel characters in exchange for an extension on the Daredevil license. Specifically, The Silver Surfer and Galactus, two characters most closely affiliated with the Fantastic Four (which Fox will retain the rights to) but perhaps more befitting the intergalactic scale of Marvel's recent efforts to expand their Avengers franchise into outer space with characters like Thanos and The Guardians of the Galaxy.

The deal, which has not yet been signed, might be lopsided in Marvel's favor, since it will prevent Josh Trank's upcoming Fantastic Four reboot from ever using one of the superhero team's most famous villains, and since Daredevil, while a great character, has little connection to the Avengers mythology that Marvel Studios is focusing on for the next few years. Fox must be seriously invested in their Daredevil reboot, which Variety also reports is close to finding a new director in The Grey's Joe Carnahan, to be willing to sacrifice the sequel potential of one of their biggest potential summer tentpoles.

Whether this deal goes through or not, we expect to hear an official word soon since the Daredevil reboot would have to go begin production by October 10, 2012 in order for Fox to keep the rights to the potential franchise.

What do you think? Would you rather Marvel make a great Daredevil movie, or incorporate the Silver Surfer and Galactus into their ongoing continuity, leaving Daredevil with Fox and the upcoming Fantastic Four movie without Galactus and the Silver Surfer available for potential sequels?
