Look, I've never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the chandelier of life, but even I understand that if one is in the business of representing NFL players, you don't go publicly bashing them. I also definitively know that if my main client is the starting tight end of the Green Bay Packers, I don't make any disparaging comments about Aaron Rodgers, the Pack's quarterback.
Apparently Jermichael Finley's agent, Blake Baratz, isn't a very bright bulb either, because he took to Twitter on Monday to air his thoughts in regards to a Jay Cutler press conference. Needless to say, they weren't nice and he didn't stop at just Cutler.
"Jay Cutler, u serious in ur press conf last night? U sound like a 6 yr old who just had his animal crackers taken. Quit being a [expletive], own up," Baratz tweeted, adding: "There's a major difference & drop off in leadership from Manning, Brees, Brady, to the next best QB's in the league. Cutler doesn't get it."
After making those tweets, he was then asked why he didn't include Packers Pro Bolw QB Aaron Rodgers on his leadership list. Baratz promptly responded, placing his second foot in his mouth, by saying that Rodgers basically sucks a leading.
“ARod is a great QB he isn't a great leader.” He tweeted. “There's a major difference. Leaders take the blame & make every1 better. He doesn't.”
It's safe to say that Baratz wasn't really thinking about his job when he was saying these things because if he had, then he would realize that being an agent requires having players sign with you. Rants like these, especially the part about how his top client's QB isn't a leader, isn't going to earn him any new blood. In fact, it may end up costing him Finley, who publicly stated in June the importance of having a relationship with Rodgers that stretches off the field.
"Having an off-season, having chemistry with your quarterback is a big key to success," Finley said. "I promise you."
Yeah, a big step to a real friendship is not having your agent publicly blast the man you are trying to bond with. I'm sure that's a conversation Finley and Baratz are having very soon if they already haven’t.
