With "Homeland" season 2 just weeks away from its premiere, Showtime has revealed a new addition to the cast.
According to Entertainment Weekly, F. Murray Abraham has signed on to appear in "Homeland" for "a big recurring role" which is slated to begin in the later episodes of season two. Abraham will portray Dar Adul; who is described as “a brilliant intelligence operative in his 60-70’s… [who] has worked all over the world for the Special Activities Division of the CIA.”
The Entertainment Weekly report also speculates that Dar Adul may have been a mentor to Mandy Patinkin's Saul Berenson.
Abraham is perhaps best remembered for his Oscar winning turn as Antonio Salieri in Amadeus. However, Abraham has also appeared in dozens of films, including All the President's Men, Scarface, The Name of the Rose, Last Action Hero, Mighty Aphrodite and Star Trek: Insurrection. More recently, Abraham has made TV guest appearances on "Louie," "The Good Wife" and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent."
Rupert Friend (Pride & Prejudice) is also slated to be among the new performers on "Homeland" later this season. Friend will play CIA Agent Peter Quinn.
"Homeland" season 2 will begin Sunday, September 30 on Showtime.
