The CW certainly has to be happy with the response to “Arrow;” which has already been picked up for a full season.

But now that the “Arrow” creative team has more episodes to fill, they have settled in on who will be the primary adversary for Oliver Queen aka Arrow (Stephen Amell). A new report on TVLine indicates that the “Big Bad” of the first season will be Count Vertigo.

Unlike Deadshot, Deathstroke and the Royal Flush Gang, Count Vertigo was actually created as a Green Arrow villain back in 1978 by Gerry Conway, Trevor Von Eeden and Vince Colletta. As originally conceived, Count Werner Vertigo was descended from the deposed ruling family of the fictional nation of Vlatava and he also used a device to manipulate the balance and perceptions of others to facilitate his crimes.

The TVLine story indicates that Count Vertigo will be given a new name, but he will likely retain his powers to disorient the minds of other people. The report also notes that “he will be truly scary and nightmarish,” and adds that he will become “Oliver’s deadliest adversary to date.”
The currently unnamed and uncast role will debut on “Arrow” in early 2013 during an episode that also introduces a new drug called “Vertigo” to the Starling City underground; which means that Oliver’s sister, Thea Queen (Willa Holland) will probably be sampling it.
