While it's never polite to take pleasure at the misfortunes of others, if you are a single man in the United States who happens to like fast cars and the women who drive them, then today is your day. The hottest driver of them all is soon to be available once more.
Danica Patrick, the queen of NASCAR, has publicly announced her reinsertion into the ranks of the single and available.
On her Facebook page Tuesday, Patrick made the monumental announcement that she and her husband of seven years, Paul Hospenthal, were calling it quits on their marriage.
"I am sad to inform my fans that after 7 years, Paul and I have decided to amicably end our marriage," Patrick said. "This isn't easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this. He has been an important person and friend in my life and that's how we will remain moving forward."
The news comes on the heels of a record season by Patrick. In her first full-time season with NASCAR, Patrick had four top-10 finishes in 33 Nationwide races with JR Motorsports that propelled her to finish 10th in driver points. That rank is the highest ever for a female driver in any of the three NASCAR series.
Riding that wave of quality driving, Patrick was voted the series' most popular driver in a recent poll.
Despite an age difference of 17 years, Patrick and Hospenthal were married in 2005. With the marriage, Hospenthal became Patricks partner in life as well as in business as he quickly became the most influential and trusted advisers of a small group of inner circle that manages Patrick's brand. There has been no word on whether he will continue with Patrick's brand in any capacity after the divorce.
Danica is set to expand on her current success by driving full-time for Tony Stewart's Sprint Cup team in 2013
