In the words of Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb…

That's right, as rumored, Dane DeHaan has been cast as Harry Osborn, Peter Parker's best friend from the Spider-Man comics and the son of Norman Osborn, aka "The Green Goblin," who in Marc Webb's first Amazing Spider-Man movie was the lynchpin of the storyline, and the indirect (and possibly even direct) cause of Peter Parker's superpowers and the disappearance of his parents. DeHaan made a serious impression earlier this year in Chronicle, a found footage superhero movie that highlighted the actor's talent for playing teenagers with a dark side. Since then, DeHaan has appeared in films like the Depression Era crime saga Lawless, for which he did an interview with CraveOnline last week in which he remained very coy about his potential involvement with the superhero sequel. The last actor to play the role was James Franco in Sam Raimi's original Spider-Man trilogy.
The official press release for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 casting news (via Coming Soon) also confirms the casting of Jamie Foxx as the supervillain Electro. This particular news seemed like a foregone conclusion, since when CraveOnline asked Marc Webb about the rumor, the director's response was, "I think Jamie Foxx is a brilliant actor. I think he's really exceptional, and I would love to have a chance to work with him. I think he's electrifying."
And then he did jazz hands. Not kidding about that part.
DeHaan and Foxx join The Descendents star Shailene Woodley, who will also join the cast as the third member of the classic love triangle, Mary Jane Watson, taking over the role from Kirsten Dunst.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (which has yet to receive an official title) is scheduled to open in theaters on May 2, 2014.
