Microsoft has sent out a press release today announcing a team-up between them, developer 343 Industries and Virgin Gaming called the Halo 4 “Infinity Challenge.” The challenge begins on December 17th and gives players a chance to win a UNSC-themed 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor truck (pictured above) and a cameo in a future Halo game.
You can head to the registration website to get started (localized registration begins Dec. 12), and then the free-to-enter Halo tournament begins on Dec 17th. All you have to do to compete is play War Games and Spartan Ops in Halo 4 and work your way up the leaderboards to hopefully nab one of the 2,800 planned prizes. The War Games leaderboard has the truck as the grand prize; a future appearance in a Halo game comes from the Spartan Ops leaderboard.
After the initial qualifying round (Dec. 17-Jan. 10), players will be separated into three groups and compete in the finals from January 12th through January 19th. The leaderboards will reset and prizes will be awarded to the top players in each tier. Additionally, players can compete for prizes over at Halo Waypoint by participating in weekly challenges.
In the press release, Microsoft also points out that because of the Infinity Challenge, Halo 4’s first season of Spartan Ops will go on hiatus for a mid-season break on December 10. The season will pick back up in January 2013 with new free episodes. This news is kind of a disappointment, but what can we do? At least we get to compete over a cool looking truck in the meantime.
