SQUIB: a : a short humorous or satiric writing or speech; b : a short news item. (Merriam-Webster)

This Tech Squib serves up a gadget you might not want to tell your ex-girlfriend you have – especially if you want to use the "…cellphone died…" excuse not to return her call.

The Satechi uCharge Hi-Speed USB Adaptor promises to charge most USB devices up to 4x faster. The user rotates between charging modes with a click of its LED Mode Selector button. Blue sets up for a Galaxy Tab, while a Red LED allows charging for everything except an iPad.

The list of Satechi uCharger compatible devices includes: iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS and 3G, iPad 4, 3, 2 and 1, iPad Mini, Samsung Galaxy S3, S2, Note 2, Note, Tab 2, Tab, 10.1, Nexus S, HTC One X, S, Motorola Droid Razr HD, Maxx, Nokia Lumia 920 and LG Optimus G.

I tried it out, and I can report it does seem to charge my iPhone 5 in double time, and the results seemed positive for the Nokia Lumia 920. I haven't seen that same performance in iPad charging. So, we'll set the unofficial results here at 66% success and say it's worth the $10.
