Back in January, USA picked up “Psych” for a seventh season. Now with the season premiere just over two months away, USA has renewed “Psych” once again.

Earlier today, the network officially confirmed that an eighth season of  “Psych” is in the cards after the announcement had already been made on the show’s official twitter account.

However, “Psych” Season 8 will consist of only eight episodes; which is half of the series’ usual 16 episode season orders. By the end of the eighth season, “Psych” will have 119 episodes; which is more than enough for the series to have a long life in repeats and syndication.

Unfortunately, the shorter season order at this point in the series’ life usually means that the network is planning to let the show end. USA didn’t call “Psych” Season 8 the final season of the show, but the writing appears to be on the wall.

By reaching eight seasons, “Psych” will tie “Monk” as USA’s longest running scripted series. Although if the episode totals hold, “Psych” will finish with six fewer episodes than “Monk.”

Created by Steve Franks in 2006, "Psych" follows Shawn Spencer (James Roday), a fake psychic who uses his keen observational skills to assist the Santa Barbara Police department on unusual cases. Dule Hill.also stars as Burton "Gus" Guster, Shawn's best friend and business partner.
