Contrary to Cancellation Rumors, MLB 2K13 Will Play This Year

Sony’s MLB The Show will not be the only baseball game suiting up this season.

It was touch and go there for a while, as many speculated 2K Sports’ Major League Baseball 2K series was being canned following last year's game, MLB 2K12. But according to a press release issues today, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

The MLB 2K franchise will return on March 5 with Major League Baseball 2K13, for Xbox 360 and PS3. This should be good news for Xbox 360 owners especially, considering the MLB 2K franchise is the only place for them to get simulation baseball on their console of choice (PS3 users still have MLB The Show).

“We’d like to thank our league partners for their support in helping us reach an agreement to bring back MLB 2K,” said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. “We know fans are extremely passionate about the MLB 2K series and the Perfect Game Challenge.”

As the above quotable mentions, the $1 million Perfect Game Challenge will also return this year, but will feature some new rules. Unfortunately, this first press release doesn’t tell us what those new rules are. We’ll be hearing more about it in the coming weeks.

David Price has been chosen for the game’s cover art (seen in part above). He was recently named the 2012 American League Cy Young Award Winner after posting a 20-5 record and league-best 2.56 ERA. He represents the third straight Cy Young Award winner to grace the cover of the MLB 2K series.
