Pikmin 3 Delayed Again, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Release Date Announced

Nintendo has a few release date announcements for you today. Some sad, some awesome.

A press release issued today by Nintendo makes it official through an off-hand comment that Pikmin 3’s release has been officially pushed out of the “launch window” period for the Wii U, which is between November 18, 2012 and March 31, 2013. The game is now scheduled to release “in the first half of the year.” The game was originally planned as a launch title for Nintendo’s new console, the Wii, but was bumped to “launch window” status in the months leading up to the system’s launch. Now we'll have to wait just a tad bit longer for it.

Pikmin 3 will have company, though, as Game & Wario, Platinum Games’ The Wonderful 101 and Wii Fit U all share that same release window now.

But it’s not all sour grapes today for Nintendo fans. The company did announce that LEGO City: Undercover will be releasing for the Wii U on March 18. Then, on March 19, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate will release on both the Wii U and 3DS (Europe on the 22). And speaking of the 3DS, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, the sequel to the GameCube classic, comes to Nintendo’s handheld on March 24. That’s a busy March for Nintendo gamers.

While we’re bummed to hear about Pikmin 3’s delay most of all, we’re going to approach it from a glass-half-full stance. Game delays suck, but they are typically in service of making a game better. In the long run, you’ll remember the game for how good it was, not how long it took to develop (unless you’re Duke Nukem Forever).
