If you haven’t bought one yet, now might be the time.

Today, Sony announced that they are bringing a “classic white” model of the PlayStation 3 to North America. This is the first time ever that a color other than black has been offered to United States customers (Canada too!). And to sweeten to pot and entice people to rush out and buy one, the new white console will be bundled with a free year subscription to PlayStation Plus.

If you don’t own a PlayStation 3 yet, you might want to consider this offer. Because with PlayStation Plus included, which is a $50 value alone, you have instant access to a ton of free games and add-on packs, plus discounted merchandise, right when you turn on your system for the first time. Some of the free titles this month include InFamous 2, LittleBigPlanet 2, NBA Jam, Super Street Fighter IV and more. You can also access the God of War: Ascension multiplayer beta, which is pretty damn fun I might add.

The classic white PS3 bundle comes with 500GB of storage – plenty for all the free games you’ll be downloading – and goes on sale January 27, 2013 for $299.99.

We might be reaching the twilight of the PlayStation 3’s life cycle as Sony winds up to blow off the doors of their next console, but there’s still plenty of oil left in the console’s tank, so to speak. As we’ve pointed out elsewhere, the dying breath of any console in today’s market usually represents the system's golden age of games, as developers have by now figured out how to truly harness the power of said system. Case and point: you can get this PS3 and look forward to The Last of Us like the rest of us.

So in conclusion: this is a pretty rad deal.
