Earlier this week, Showtime revealed that Damian Lewis will return for a third season on “Homeland,” despite Nicholas Brody’s apparent exile in Canada. However, Brody’s main rival may not be back.
According to TVLine, Diego Klattenhoff will not be a regular cast member of “Homeland” Season 3, leaving the fate of his character, Mike Faber up in the air. Mike was the man who took care of Brody’s family and romanced his wife, Jessica (Morena Baccarin) while Brody was presumed dead... and when the Brody marriage became strained to its limit.
The report notes that Klattenhoff may recur during the third season of “Homeland” and that he will likely be sought after during the coming pilot season. Baccarin is also listed as a cast member likely to return for season three, but it’s unclear how “Homeland” would handle Mike’s absence. The final episode of “Homeland” Season 2 finally reunited Mike and Jessica as a couple shortly before Brody was presumed dead and framed for a terrorist act using his own words from an earlier suicide message.
Two early theories about Mike’s fate involve him either meeting an untimely end or abandoning the Brody family after fighting so hard for them. But the first option seems more likely than the second one.
Outside of “Homeland,” Klattenhoff has appeared in several genre TV series, including “Smallville,” “Stargate SG-1,” “Witchblade” and “Supernatural” as well as appearances in The Dark Knight Rises and the upcoming Pacific Rim.
