Newscaster’s Blatant Error Mistaking Bill Russell For Morgan Freeman

[Video] See who made the public blunder on national television Monday.

How fitting it would be to see Morgan Freeman in the crowd as President Obama took the reigns to his second term Monday. Although not quite as accomplished as President of the United States, one could argue that Freeman has influenced just as many people with his inspirational film roles over the years — heck, he even played President himself in 1998's Deep Impact. So when ABC News correspondent George Stephanopoulos announced that Freeman was in attendance, a non-suspecting viewer may have not been shocked. The only problem was that the camera wasn't pointing at Morgan Freeman. It was pointing at Hall of Fame basketball legend Bill Russell.

The 78-year-old former Celtic has been a big advocate for civil and human rights most of his entire life. He even marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his younger days. Russell has also received the nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Not too shabby.

The good news is that Stephanopoulos corrects himself quickly; I'm sure only because of the producer screaming in his ear — not that the Boston Celtics shamrock on his hat isn't a dead giveaway.
