Earlier this month, word broke about two new characters coming to “Dexter” Season 8 who may serve as new adversaries for Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter). Now both roles have been filled by veteran performers.
According to Deadline, Sean Patrick Flanery has been signed to portray Jacob Elroy, an ex-cop turned private investigator. Flanery’s part is described as “a major recurring role,” but the report doesn’t state what Elroy’s case will be. However, the most popular theory has Elroy looking into the murder of Captain María LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez).
Over at Entertainment Weekly, Charlotte Rampling has been cast as Dr. Evelyn Vogel, a character who is described as “a formidable and whip smart neuro-psychiatrist in her late 50s who assists the law in profiling criminals.”
Flanery is perhaps best known for playing Indiana Jones in “The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles,” Greg Stillson on the “Dead Zone” TV series and Connor MacManus in The Boondock Saints films. Flanery has also appeared in Suicide Kings, Saw 3D, “The Twilight Zone,” "Stargate SG-1," "Numb3rs" and "CSI."
During her decades long career, Rampling has had parts in the original TV incarnation of “The Avengers,” The Damned, Stardust Memories, The Verdict and Farewell, My Lovely.
“Dexter” Season 8 will premiere on Sunday, June 30, only on Showtime.
