Bryan Singer's superhero sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past is coming together very quickly, and the film's attempt to marry the original franchise with the prequel reboot X-Men: First Class is now abundantly clear. In addition to Sir Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellan, Singer has now confirmed via Twitter that original cast members Ellen Page, Anna Paquin and Shawn Ashmore, who played the mutants Kitty Pryde, Rogue and Iceman respectively, are also part of the new film's cast.

In the original comic book storyline Days of Future Past, mutants were being hunted to extinction in a dystopian future, and Kitty Pryde went back in time Terminator-style (three years before the release of the James Cameron film) to prevent that future from ever coming to pass. It is increasingly apparent that the new film will find cast members from the three original, near-future X-Men franchise (directed by Bryan Singer and Brett Ratner) going back to the First Class timeline to team up with the heroes of Matthew Vaughn's prequel and save the future. That's speculation, obviously, but what else are we supposed to make of this?
Hugh Jackman is also reportedly in talks to reprise his role of Wolverine, which would make X-Men: Days of Future Past his seventh feature film appearance as the popular superhero.
