We're not going to mince words about this: as far as we're concerned, teaser trailers for teaser trailers are evil. We know, we know, you're eager to see footage of Iron Man 3, and we are too, but think about it... this Super Bowl teaser spot is a ten second preview of a thirty second preview you're going to be able to see in just a couple of days. Rather than come up with something new or special for all the devoted Iron Man fans out there, they just chopped something new and special into a tiny piece and gave it to you just early enough to keep it from being actually valuable. They get twice the marketing, for almost no effort whatsoever, and we're all expected to lap it up? It's pretty condescending if you really think about it.
We almost didn't post the Super Bowl teaser spot of Iron Man 3, on sheer principle mind you (let's not encourage this sort of thing, okay?), but then we saw this incredible new poster for Iron Man 3 and figured, well, if we're giving you this awesome one-sheet (in HD, if you click on the image), we might as well tack on the preview of the preview as a little bonus. On its own, that teaser is problematic from a philosophical perspective, but as an added bonus to other content, well, that's not so bad. And the footage looks great. We love seeing James Rhodes in the Iron Patriot armor, don't you?
Iron Man 3, starring Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle and Sir Ben Kingsley, opens in theaters on May 3, 2013.
