According to a Time Warner investors call held last week, we can expect a new Batman game set in the Arkham universe this year. The official wordage comes from Time Warner’s CFO John K. Martin, who said the following:
“And we also have a strong games release this year, which will include the next release in the Batman Arkham franchise. So all in all, we expect Warners to post another very strong year in 2013. And with a little luck, the year should be as good or maybe even a little bit better than 2012.”
There were rumors swirling last year that the next Arkham game would be set during the Silver Age of DC Comics and focus on the first meeting between Batman and the Joker. The game would also introduce more heroes and villains from the larger DCU into the series for the first time.
Interestingly, VG247 is reporting that Rocksteady Studios – the team that handled both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City – will not be developing the next game in the series. If this is true, that’s a huge blow. We’re all for more Batman titles, but Rocksteady is responsible for making this series more than just a bat-gimmick.
We’ll be back with more information when we know it.
